1. Jack of Cups Saloon
This MUST EAT AT eatery located on Folly Beach offers one of the best seasonal menus I’ve ever seen inspired by Asian & Indian flavors. Southern Living Magazine calls it “a seasonally evolving & always inventive menu.” Feast on unique dishes such as: Cheddar Chili Crunch Toast, Astronaut Tang Bowl, Cashew Korma, & the mother of all mac & cheeses…….Green Curry Mac & Cheese. It’s unreal. Perfect for vegan or vegetarian diners as well.
2. Bon Bahn Mi
Straightforward & always fresh, this place is a flavorful sandwich lover’s dream. First time? The 5 Spice Pork Bahn Mi Sandwich is a must. Here you can also choose your base between: bahn mi, salad, taco, or bowl & fill with flavor bursting items such as Tamarind Shrimp, Ginger Lemongrass Chicken, or Red Curry Beef to name a few. Bring the kiddos! They offer a killer kids menu for just $6.
3. Three Little Birds Cafe
Peace. Love. And Pancakes. If breakfast is your thing, head over to this cute cafe with outdoor seating on James Island. They feature a large breakfast, the best french toast I’ve had, omelets, fresh squeezed juices, & handmade smoothies. (Get the peanut butter & banana.) Lunch menu includes a variety of sandwiches, wraps, & salads. Standout? Birdhouse Burrito. Made of black beans, tofu, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, & cholula creme sauce. Do not forget to order a side of broccoli salad. You’re welcome.
4. Martin’s BBQ
These guys know barbeque. Every morning, they go in at 5AM & smoke a whole hog for 20 hours over hickory hardwood coals to bring us the goodness that is West TN Style Whole Hog BBQ. Every third Thursday of each month, they host Martin’s Market – an outdoor marketplace featuring several of Charleston’s local vendors. Do not miss out on the Notorious Redneck Taco! Say hello to a cornbread hoecake with choice of pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked chicken, smoked turkey, or catfish topped with slaw & Jack’s Creek Sauce. Getting hungry yet? Oh & also do not forget to order a side of their broccoli salad.
5. Caffeinate & Bake
Sarah-Katherine Garcia is one sweet lady & with a fashion merchandising background, she’s always been a very creative, visual person. When you bite into one of her sugar cookies, you’ll know why she made this list. What sets her apart from other bakers is her willingness to make whatever seemingly nonsensical idea you may have come to life in cookie form.
