Grab your comfiest chair, ladies, because this story has a six-hour layover, a missing suitcase, and a whole lot of Kenny Chesney — and I'm telling you every single detail.

Last Christmas, LWU surprised my girl Kristin with a gift she was SO not expecting: tickets to see Kenny Chesney at The Sphere in Vegas. Cue the happy tears. I got to tag along too — and somehow, after all these years, I'd never seen Kenny live (I know, I know). I should've known this trip was going to be an adventure before we even left Charleston.

When the Universe Tests Your Devotion to Kenny

Here's the thing about us — we don't let a little chaos stand between us and a good time. Somewhere over Texas, on our flight from CHS to Dallas, I got the notification every traveler dreads: our connecting flight to Vegas had been cancelled and we'd been rebooked... for 5 AM the next morning. Absolutely not. Not on Kenny's watch.

So I did what I do best — worked a little magic and got us on an 11:45 PM flight instead. Which, yes, meant a six-hour layover in Dallas. But you know what six hours in an airport calls for? A triple dipper at Chili's and roughly five skinny margaritas, followed by a strategic relocation to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the USA play in the World Cup (with one more skinny marg for the road, obviously). Honestly? Not the worst layover we've ever had.

Sin City, at Last (After a Two-Hour Wait for Luggage)

We touched down in Vegas only to spend two hours staring longingly at an empty baggage carousel while our suitcases decided to take their own little detour. By the time we rolled into Caesars Palace, it was 3 AM Vegas time — 6 AM our time — and we had officially been awake for 24 hours straight. We did not pass go, we did not collect $200, we went straight to bed.

Friday brought a fresh start (and much-needed coffee) as we headed to Bellagio for lunch, only to miss our Sadelle's reservation by an hour. No worries — we regrouped with some food court eats back at Caesars, because sometimes the plan changes and that's perfectly fine. That's the LWU way: roll with it, laugh about it, keep it moving.

The Main Event

We got glammed up, cabbed it over to the Venetian, and strolled to The Sphere with time to spare. First stop: the merch table, because you know we came home with goodies for everyone back home. Then we sipped Kenny's signature "Island Girl" in a souvenir cup (a must, no notes) and settled into our seats in Section 109 — and let us tell you, those seats did NOT disappoint.

The visuals were unreal. He played every song we were hoping for. We made friends with the whole row around us. And by the final encore, Kristin and Erin were in full agreement: best concert either of them had ever been to. Full stop.

Cabana Days & Housemade Pasta

The next morning called for exactly one thing: doing absolutely nothing. We claimed our cabana at the Apollo pool, ordered club sandwiches and frozen drinks, and let the sun do its thing. If there's one thing we believe in wholeheartedly, it's that a trip isn't complete without at least one day of pure, unbothered lounging.

Saturday night we dressed it up for Italian at Stanton Social, where the housemade pastas absolutely delivered. Sunday morning meant one last pastry run to Bellagio before heading to the airport — and thankfully, the trip home was smooth sailing compared to the odyssey that got us there.

The Verdict

Layovers, lost luggage, missed reservations — none of it mattered. We had the best time, made memories (and friends) we'll keep forever, and we're already counting down until we're loungin' in Vegas again.

Got a "we almost didn't make it but it was so worth it" travel story of your own? We want to hear it. Drop it in the comments or share it with us in the Lounge — that's exactly what this space is for.

Until next time, keep loungin'.
